For a monochrome camera system there is no advantage in a colour monitor. The serviceable monochrome unit is the cost-effective option, with many offering a higher resolution in terms of TV Lines than colour monitors. Monochrome is also suitable for an unmanned surveillance system. For high quality manned surveillance systems it makes sense to install a high-resolution colour monitor. Be sure that the resolution of the monitor at least equals that of the camera, to gain full value from your investment in the front end of your system. Finally, for aesthetic and space saving reasons, a flat screen monitor may be preferred. In 1997 the House of Lords Select Committee on Science & Technology conducted an investigation into the increasing use of digital imaging and the issues surrounding the suitability of digital images for use as evidence. A report of their findings was published in February 1998. The study investigated image quality, image tampering, storage and reproduction amongst many other important issues. A brief outline of the topics covered in the report is given at this Government web site. http://www.crimereduction.gov.uk/cctv27.htm |
