When selecting a CCTV camera, the purpose of capturing an image should always be paramount in your mind. The more likely it is that you need to identify the person in the picture or even use the image as evidence, the more care you must take in choosing you camera and specifying every other aspect of the installation. In 1997 the House of Lords Select Committee on Science & Technology conducted an investigation into the increasing use of digital imaging and the issues surrounding the suitability of digital images for use as evidence. A report of their findings was published in February 1998. The study investigated image quality, image tampering, storage and reproduction amongst many other important issues. A brief outline of the topics covered in the report is given at this Government web site. http://www.crimereduction.gov.uk/cctv27.htm |
